Tadoussac, a village of under 1,000 people, was first established in the seventeenth
century as a French trading post. Today it is the oldest inhabited European settlement
in Quebec and the only surviving French
settlement in the Americas. This fascinating historical past, combined with the
rugged beauty of the Saguenay
Fjord, continuously draws tourists to the Tadoussac region. Visitors can stay
in a wide range of accommodations
from hotels
and inns,
to cottages
and B&Bs
and dine at one of many great local restaurants.
There are a number of things to do when visiting this area. The bay provides tourists
with opportunities to take a whale
watching tour, enjoy a relaxing day-cruise, or see the sights aboard a seaplane,
kayak
or sailboat.
Avid hikers and cyclists can appreciate the stunning beauty of the Saguenay region
on select trails
located throughout the area. The historical importance, and marine life
of this small Quebec village can be experienced at the
Chauvin Trading Post and Centre
d'interpretation des Mammiferes Marins. For the amenities that this small
town cannot provide, Alma and Chicoutimi
are a mere hour-long drive from the village.
